Thanks to all who supported our litter pick! |

When I started in Policing nearly 20 years ago if you had told me one of my priorities would have been fly tipping I wouldn’t have believed you. In the past I have definitely turned up at public meetings and said it wasn’t my responsibility. But it’s only when you stop and really listen that you understand the impact.
Having to walk to school amongst open bin bags and look out on it from your home weighs heavy on many. The rubbish is also a clear signal to criminals that guardians of the area either are not around or are not paying attention.
It was great to support a community litter pick around Crosby and Town. I was able to advertise this using our my community alert system. Honestly I was not sure how many would turn up but the response was amazing. The best part was seeing residents come and join us as we moved around.
We cleared tons of rubbish but the reality is that some of it will be there again tomorrow. But this was more about the message that it sends and that was clear… there are people in the community who care and want to make a change… This message will not have gone unnoticed.
It was great to sit down at the end to thank everyone and officially launch our clear/ hold/ build initiative. Special thanks to St Georges Church and Crosby One for hosting, North Lincs Council for their support, the Ladies at Scunthorpe Litter Pickers who organised it all and to the community members who gave up their time.
Let’s keep the momentum going!
There will be more litter picks organised in the coming months and it would be great to see as many community members taking part. You can also support us by joining our neighbourhood watch initiative for Town and Crosby. If you are interested in taking part please email saferneighbourhoods@northlincs.gov.uk or call 01724 297430.
Thanks
